Nintendo Confirms Rumors: We're Showing Stream at E3 2011

I was reading a Cnet article about Nintendo's revenue troubles. Later in the article, Cnet confirmed that Nintendo will be showing Project Stream at this year's E3 Expo. E3 is the exposition (a place where companies in an industry get together to show their wares). This is exciting for all of us; we no longer have to stare at the watermill of speculation.

I reported a week or two ago about Project Cafe on Rob's Gaming Network. Citing IGN as our source, Cafe would have a new controller which implements an LCD screen to enhance the gameplay experience. Before we all gawk at the possibility of it being a let down, there are some practical uses to an additional touch screen implemented into the controller. Additional options can be put into the LCD menu. Items, ammunition, or information can be put onto that LCD screen.

I suppose an accurate example would be this. If you recall in Super Mario Bros. 3, if you pressed the B button, you would flip the card and have access to multiple powerups you acquired throughout the game. Nintendo could do something similar- but put those powerups in a stackable list (as in New Super Mario Bros Wii) on the LCD screen. If the player pushed the icon for a mushroom powerup, he could get it in the game. The LCD screen could also showcase maps, minimaps, and more.

Nintendo gave us more starfruit to devour: The new console would release in 2012. So soon? I won't complain. In the gaming industry, ever since Microsoft entered into the fray earlier in the last decade (2000-2001?), things began to get cut throat.

You know, as well as I know, that Sony and Microsoft now have to get their A game on, and may release their plans on future projects. All three companies have been known to release consoles ahead of each other or behind each other, with some impact to their sales. I better start saving money now, eh?

I'll state it again for the record- it is no longer speculation that Nintendo will leak information at E3; they will be releasing information at E3.
