The FBI has recently arrested 10 people who they accuse of working for the Russian Intelligence agency known as the KGB. Before everyone loses it and points fingers wildly in multiple directions, what exactly is the threat here?
Every country, at least, every major world power- plays dirty. The US has spies in other countries. Russia likes keeping tabs on other countries, too. What exactly were these spies doing since the 1990s? they were in the loop on political doings and lobbying. These spies had no access to defense records, classified intel or any other types of data that would seriously put the United States at risk.
You can’t stop spies. Today’s day and age is a war of information. I’ve never seen the result of a situation like this one- perhaps the people will be deported, or perhaps they will face jail time. Ignoring the Russians downplaying the situation, I think justice should be served swiftly and appropriately. Americans should not overplay the situation either- don’t make this a bigger mess than what it actually is.
Embarassing, yes. The US has had agents and pilots caught spying, and had been embarrassed before, too. I invite the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to handle the situation appropriately and fairly. Weigh the risk that these spies posed (not much), and act accordingly.
I also like to make this comment to anyone who thinks this is a spy thriller: SHUT UP. By the way, TLDR: Anya Chapman is HOT.
