INTJs

(excuse the spelling and grammatical errors- its 6am and I just got off graveyard shift ~Rob)

Well here is an interesting lesson- personality types. The Myers Briggs Personality Indicator/Typology test places people into 16 different personality groups. Typically there are four groups indicated by the xXXx capitalized letters of the placement- I am an NT, or rational/mastermind. So what is an INTJ? Where can I take this test? here. Not everyone scores to an extreme left or right- more often than not you will have low numbers. If you score ENTJ and score the numbers 27/30/100/65, you definitely use your head, can cope with people (but need recharge), you see a gray shade in the black vs. white spectrum and you are on the intuitive and theoretical side a bit. I score 85/40/100/65 on INTJ, typically.


Introduction
INTJs are known to be masterminds and are around 1-2% of the general population. We are a logical bunch of people who use an analytical approach to life almost like a religion- we trust our rational and experience rather than feelings and emotions. On that note, INTJs may have difficulty expressing emotions to just anyone; my emotions are largely kept in check 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The person that seems to be a cold, heartless ass is actually not one.


Society and the INTJ
INTJs may be socially awkward- thats how it was with me throughout high school. INTJs can have people skills- I got them working at various jobs over the years. It is not terribly difficult to strike up a conversation- but small talk may be frivelous (pointless) to an INTJ. Bored, they will seep back into the worlds inside their head.


Relationships
INTJs are the type that have the most difficulty finding a date. Many extroverted types ("people" people) see no fun in someone who likes to get away and do things on their own- they want a relationship where they can party, have what they want and speak more openly with their partner. INTJs, or at least me in this example, care about the needs of their partner and are very willing to negociate- though don't take the INTJs "me time" away.


INTJs know what they want and what they expect of their partner- and compromise is something that is always on the table. Instead of roles, INTJs are more independent and typically raise the opposite sex (in my case, women) to an equal level in the decision making process. Decisions are made together, etc, even if an INTJ knows more on a subject than their partner. INTJs don't just want their partners to be included- they want a trusted, close opinion of a significant other, even if they don't know much. INTJs may be so strong minded that they do not need any opinions other than from themselves or their partners- as in my case. People can insult me, but I will laugh at them. Constructive criticism is always helpful and feedback is necessary in all situations.


On a related note, INTJs tend to not take leadership roles until incompetence is noticed or inefficiency clogs up the system.


The Brain
INTJs use their brain. They enjoy a intellectually stimulating argument or conversation. INTJs like to play "devil's advocate" and attack issues from multiple perspectives and multiple sides. INTJs live in a world inside their brain- what I mean by this is INTJs can and usually do (no INTJ I have ever met does NOT) talk to themselves. INTJs are very self confident, secure and know what they want to accomplish. The INTJ is typically left brain dominant, but myself and many others have worked with the right hemisphere and stimulating it, such as through music and art. I know many INTJs that are deeply involved with musical instruments. Not many I know are artists. Many I know are engineers or chemists- and they make an art form of their work. You will FIND INTJs in fields utilizing the left brain hemisphere- logic, law, design, etc- but they are in other places, too.


Needs of an INTJ
INTJs can vary from simple to very complex- though their needs are typically simple. INTJs enjoy having a circle of friends or acquaintances, though they want time to themselves. INTJs would rather read a book than go to a party. I was at work and was invited to a strip club but I am opting to go to MAAM 2009 instead (an airshow).  I am not that kind of person to go clubbing. Love is something, in my opinion that is reserved and should be private. Most people gauge a person's interest by how they express their interest in the opposite sex. In INTJs, these reactions are supressed or turned off entirely. They must be turned on a different way.


"ME Time"
INTJs need their me time. This is a MUST. Although they enjoy the attention and time of a partner, it is necessary that they have time alone to think and recharge. This is how are brains are wired. Like people need time off of work to relax and hang out with friends, we need time to sit down, reflect and enjoy some activity. Me time varies from INTJ to INTJ. My free time consists of World of Warcraft (some INTJs love it, some abhor it) and model building- especially model building. I like constructing a model kit, then adding detail to it. It's like owning a miniature tank or battleship!


Where to find one
This is a tough one- INTJs are rare and hard to find. Some women (or men) find it attractive in the opposite sex that they are guarded, warm and interesting. INTJs are very blunt and direct- if someone makes a joke and plays with words, I may not get it and may need it explained to me. I get some of them. If I don't like something, I won't wait, delay and not say anything if asked- I will blatantly say "I do not like it".


Finding some in the library may be a challenge- they may be too young or socially awkward. You won't find them in bars either. Where can you find them? Campus clubs. They may be on debate team, in my case the gaming guild (if you can get through the weirdness that is considered Dungeons and Dragons, you will more than likely find an NT of some sort) or some other intellectually stimulating club.


Intelligence
You will find that INTJs are very intelligent- scoring on IQ tests above average intelligence or high level of intelligence. They typically work as engineers (me), lawyers or in the medical field. INTJs are elsewhere too- but they won't be in sales. INTJs recognize the need for authority but tend to avoid being bound in obligations and work on their own. Almost anything can be analyzed; and many things are possible.
