Hmmm... is the Red Light up yet? "whack, crrraaaashhhh". "Oh for BEEPS sake".

I went out today to go get my haircut. The haircut salon doesn't open until 12pm, and it was 30 minutes before. So I decided to call up Pizza Hut and order a P'zone. I took route 33 to 248 to Nazareth to get my P'zone.I decided to come home and get my haircut tomorrow. I rode down 191 south and stopped after the junction to 946, at the intersection of Newburg road. It had been raining for about 20 minutes. I stopped, thinking everything would be as it usually is- but so often we take things for granted on the road. I stopped at the light, and about 3 seconds later, I got quite the shocker.

I felt a large crash and a vibration through my truck; someone had rear ended me. I calmly said an explitive I won't repeat, and sighed. I got out real fast to check my truck, and I thought "no that was too big for minor damage". The guy who rear ended me got out and asked if I was alright, I said yeah, asked if he was alright, and we got out of the way of traffic. We pulled into the Newburg Inn parking lot and I got his information, he got mine, and I gave a call to my parents. My dad told me to call the police- so I got their number and called them.

I told them where I was, that I was alright, and that I wasn't obstructing traffic. The gentleman who hit me apologized a lot, and I was pretty cool about the whole situation- I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared. I now know what happens during an accident- I've been five years without one, and so far a perfect record of not causing one. The gentleman was in his early 30s, mid 30s. The tires on his company vehicle were bad and he has been complaining about them- and I suspected he hydroplaned into me. He said he hit me going about 20-25mph.

My seat belt tightened and did its job. There is no superficial damage to my bumper. The bumper got dislodged- and his [bumper] did as well. The bumper also did its job by absorbing some of the impact. I drove around after the accident and couldn't notice any problems or leaks. I saw a weird liquid coming out around my tail pipe, and it looked like rain/water, so I thought nothing of it [I will check my fuel gauge in a bit, I hope the fuel tank wasn't ruptured]. It happened so quickly that I didn't have time to tense up like a lot of people do expecting an impact. I never saw it coming- I usually check the light, then my rear view mirror. I got to step 1, and before I got to step 2, POW.

I'm fine, and it has been an interesting learning experience. I decided not to press charges against him because of the rain, and I had a bit of sympathy for the guy. I'm not a pushover- he damaged my bumper pretty good, but at the same time, I am not going to flip out on him. I guess he got a surprise hitting a college kid who was calm about the situation. Oh, and the P'zone was great.
