Taking a Look at the Connection Between Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time

Fi, a genderless entity that aids Link in his quest in Skyward Sword

Skyward Sword's release is just upon us. Let's discuss the events surrounding both of these games, with facts and assumptions that we know beforehand (before Skyward Sword). This article will not contain any spoilers regarding the new Zelda game that have not been revealed 2 weeks prior to the release... As for Ocarina of Time spoilers- well, you had over 10 years to play it.

What we know about Skyward Sword:
-A land exists above Hyrule known as Skyloft. Link and Zelda are denizens of Skyloft.
-Girahim, a Demon Lord, is out to capture Zelda for some purpose due to her "holy powers".
-Fi is an entity that comes out of the Skyward Sword (I know the sword's name is different) and aids Link.
-The Skyward Sword will eventually become the Master Sword.

That's literally everything I know about Skyward Sword that doesn't give too much away. I have avoided internet forums, Zelda pedia's, or discussions with people that are aware of the spoilers. I will review the game when I am done with it- and I will set that article's release date 3 months later, to give the majority of gamers time to play the game. After that, I will warn of spoilers in any article. I am not going to trick my readers.

Miyamoto said that Skyward Sword occurs before Ocarina of Time. Before we complain about "another prequel", let's look at the events surrounding Ocarina of Time.

Ocarina of Time
The Hyrulean Civil War occurred right before the events of [Ocarina of Time]. Different races were fighting amongst one another, and it is very possible it could have started because people were looking for a way to find the Triforce. Link, who was born sometime during the Hyrulean Civil War- was delivered to the Kokiri Forest by his mother, who was wounded in the chaos. Dying, she trusted the care of the child to the Great Deku Tree. Link is then raised as a Kokiri. By whom, we don't know. I would assume all, or few, of the Kokiri children, who never age in appearance.

In [Twilight Princess], it is explained that a group of interlopers began quarreling amongst those seeking the Triforce. This particular group of people were deemed so dangerous that the Goddesses themselves had to become involved. Three light spirits descended onto Hyrule to deal with the interlopers. They were forever banished to an alternate dimension known as the Twilight Realm. The only way to the closed off realm is through the Mirror of Twilight, which was created by the Gods. It was handed to the Ancient Sages for protection (possibly the same sages who built the Temple of Time). This "interloper" conflict may have occurred during or around the Hyrulean Civil War, as part of the conflict.

With the widely known knowledge of the Sacred Realm, Ganondorf began plotting to enter it and steal the Golden Power (the Triforce). This leads to the events of Ocarina of Time- to get to the Sacred Realm, Ganondorf needs the three stones of virtue. He curses the Deku Tree, Seals up Dodongo's Cavern, and sickens Jabu-Jabu. Evil cannot touch the Blade of Evil's Bane- and Ganondorf was conniving enough to allow Link to "roam around" until he [Link] opened the way to the Sacred Realm. Link was sealed with the Master Sword for seven years, and Ganondorf perverted the Realm. When he touched the Triforce, it split into three pieces because his heart did not have a balance of power, wisdom and courage. He was left with the Triforce of Power.

The rest is gaming history. Link defeats Ganon, the Sages seal him, and Link is returned to a time before he began his initial quest (we know that "Zelda" sent Link back to a point where Link goes to meet Zelda, indicating that the Deku Tree incident may have already occurred). This begins the split timeline of Hyrule A and Hyrule B, with one Link, and no Link, respectively.

Speculation
The Temple of Time

Based on a spoiler (which, if correct) which I am choosing not to disclose, I would estimate that [Skyward Sword] takes place 50-70 years before [Ocarina of Time]. Perhaps there was conflict before the Civil War, and perhaps there wasn't. One thing we do know is that the knowledge of the Sacred Realm was not as widespread as it was when the Civil War occurred. Around the time of [Ocarina of Time], the current King of the Zoras was the 16th king. Assuming a reign lasted every 30 years or so (a long time), you could estimate that the Zoras had been officially around for about 300-450 years before the events of Ocarina of Time. If the Royal Family had ties all the way back to the first King Zora, then Hyrule is pretty old, indeed. Big "what if" though.

Will the Temple of Time be in Skyward Sword? Given the above guess, and the knowledge that it was built to protect the Sacred Realm (with the Master Sword as the final key, Ocarina of Time, and the Stones of Virtue as keys) from those who didn't belong there, I would guess Yes. We know the Temple of Time was built before the events of Ocarina of Time by ancient sages, to guard the way to the Temple of Light. Is it possible that evil forces may want the Triforce in [Skyward Sword]? Why the hell not- people have been trying to get in for a long time in the franchise's history. If there is a threat to the Sacred Realm, and ASSUMING (a BIG ASS ASSUMPTION) that the Triforce is whole (no one has touched it to split it), then motions would have existed to build the Temple of Time.

What will happen in three days? Well, we will find out. Any comments to this post will not be looked at until after I have beaten the game.
