I was a victim of the PSN breaches. Fortunately for me, my information (and credit card info) were all old. There are simple steps you can take to protect yourself online. If you are savvy about your safety, you won't need to read this article.
1) Use PSN point cards.
A friend informed me that you can purchase point cards for the PSN from stores like Walmart and Gamestop. Purchasing these cards eliminates the step of entering your credit card information into the PSN. If your credit card isn't registered in the PSN, it can't be stolen. This step may be painful, but it will protect your credit card.
2) Monitor your bank account
You should be looking at your bank account anyways. Make sure that funds going out are not going where you didn't spend them.
3) Have identity theft protection
Some credit cards like American Express offer identity restoration services. I personally prefer Lifelock. It is a good idea to have ID theft protection in this day of computers and online shopping.
4) Don't give out your password
Don't give out your password. To anybody.
