Flames from Beyond is a direct "pay cost to damage" mage ability that gets you a slightly better turn than the 1:1 ratio. Additionally, it is instant and includes warp if you happen to stmble upon it. I would probably play this card in my deck. It is versatile, deals DPS and can put hurt on the boss- automated or not.
