1/144 HG Sandrock Custom

Bandai may have their master grade series for more serious modelers, but the foundation of their model kit sales came from 1/144 Gundam kits.

1/144 is the scale in which the model is represented. If you expand the dimensions of each kit 144 times, you will have the original size. The history of these kits is "no glue or paint required", but that is not how I fly here at Plamotaku. Sure you can build it out of the box and be happy with it, but I prefer to dress up my kits and make them look spiffy.

Sandrock Custom is a Gundam from the Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz OVA that aired in America in 1998. The kit retailed at the time for 1200 JPY, or US $16.00. The reason this particular kit is more expensive is because it is the pearl version, where the plastic is transparent. Some find this effect cool, but I will do away with it.

You will get about a half dozen runners with parts. 1/144's aren't terribly complicated, and the ones from the 1990s can use a lot of work. When putting this kit together, you will need to be aware of filling seam lines and part preparation. You shouldn't paint this kit assembled- each part should be painted as a sub-assembly, left to dry, then assembled.

While Sandrock isn't my favorite Gundam, I loved Gundam Wing. I picked this kit up months ago and never got around to it. This time, we will give it a shot. The painting should be quick, but the seam line work may take a little time.

select testors acrylics- or whatever paint brand you use. There is a lot of choice.
